*is a sheep* From a few people...
Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc.

Date: 2008-03-12 01:31 am (UTC)It’s been years since I wore anything else. It all started because this lady who does my nails was selling some sometime and I got them to try and loved them. You know how people say they would ride up your ass and stuff? Not for me. They are completely comfortable, plus you don’t get to see the panty lines which are really awful. I don’t do lacy things. I like cotton, bright colors and patterns. The one I’m wearing right now has blue, fuchsia, purple and brown lines. Very lively.
On the bra department, I used to wear pushup bras. I have small boobs, really small so since I don’t have them I figured I should buy them. I had everything, bras filled with gel, water, air, just about anything you might need. A couple of years ago I decided to embrace my flat chestesness (yes, I made up a new word) and stop wearing push up bras. Which is a bit problematic on its on because they hardly sell simple no-push up bras on small sizes. It’s like the underwear industry is telling me I should have big boobs no matter what. Well, they sell these cool bra/tops here, cotton and lycra, really comfortable in lively colors and patterns too so that’s what I’m wearing these days and they are not too tight so they don’t flatten the little boobs I do have. I have a purple one on right now ^-^
Underwear for me is all about comfort and pretty lively colors and that’s sexy all on it’s on, plus looks great with every type of clothing no matter how tight it is. Quite important…

Date: 2008-03-12 02:11 am (UTC)Or 2 or 4 or 6 or even 7, depending on the clothes brand. The point is that I'm pretty slim and have always been. I use to have the problem that I wanted to buy something but I couldn't get my size because I was too skinny. I've gained some weight in the last year and that coupled with the fashion industry making clothes for people really skinny has helped me in my quest to get clothing. I'm lucky because I have a fast metabolism. I eat what I want and never gain weight. I don't know the struggles some people go through to accommodate to the fashion these days. In Spain they aren't making size 0 clothes any more, which is good because it encourages girls to gain weight and not endanger their health but what about people naturally slim like me? Thing is, I'm the typical girl other women would look at and say "she's not eating enough" but it isn't like that. I'm the other side of the coin here, the person who eats and is still skinny. I do think is ridiculous the expectations and the standard of body size these days. Most women are naturally more filled than me. That's good, the curves and not just bones like I am. The average Colombian woman is skinny. Not as much as me but very slim nonetheless so the clothing here is made that way. If you are what was once knows as a medium size (a real medium size9 getting clothing here is complicated, at least anything that isn't made for women over 40. Still, my view in this whole topic is a bit of an outsider. I don't have to deal with diets and honestly I don't think I ever could but I like clothes, I love clothes and I know a lot of women feel that they have to change their whole lives to fit into those standards, which is very sad. This was more like an incoherent ramble than a post, but I hope it works…

Date: 2008-03-12 04:47 am (UTC)I'm torn on the size zero thing, myself. There are people who are naturally slender and would have to struggle to gain enough weight to be a size 6 or above - they shouldn't be ashamed of their weight or targeted just for being skinny. It's just what they are, and they should be free to be themselves. Slender should be beautiful, just as big should be beautiful. (After all - I've seen photos of you, missy. I know you're gorgeous! lol)
On the other hand...I look at rising eating disorder rates, lots of examples of size-0 models (like the 6' runway models who obviously aren't meant to be 0, they have to starve themselves to fit the clothes) and I'm just plain frightened. Women kill themselves to achieve this look that's not really meant for them, and if they manage to achieve it? They look scary, and disturbingly unhealthy.
I guess my issue with tiny 0-6 sizes is more that they're pushed by the fashion & beauty industry as the norm for *everyone*, regardless of whether you've got the skinny or curvy or large body type. Size 16 should be just as stylish as size 0, you know? It's all about celebrating diversity, man!
Speaking of - I have your same problem with clothes, only at the opposite end of the spectrum. ^^;; I have the tall, stocky Northern/Western European genes, and all my life, I've always been a Big Girl no matter what I did. (Broad shoulders, broader hips. Not busty, but LOTS of junk in the trunk.) For a long time, it's been hard to find cute, youthful clothes that fit my style. Most plus size stores cater to women in their 30's and 40's. >.>;;

Date: 2008-03-12 02:35 am (UTC)I live in Bogotá, which is the capital city of Colombia. We are a country that is very much talked about and sadly very rarely in a good way. We are known for the drugs. True, Colombia, thanks to its fertile soils and climate is very good to grow the plants used as drugs like marijuana and cocaine. However, must of the drugs produced here are exported and very little is actually consumed here. That's where we get our bad rep. Drugs bring money, money brings greed and greed brings violence (*feels like Yoda* ^^;;). There's a big problem with violence here. We have a guerrilla that has been part of the country for more than one hundred years. Nowadays, they guard and profit from the marijuana and cocaine fields. They have forced people out of their lands, killed, kidnapped and done a lot of horrible things all around.
Now that I've given you the bad side, let me tell you about the other side of Colombia. This is above all a country of friendly people. We are happy, nice, warm, always with a smile and a nice word. Despite all the violence around us and the poverty, Colombian people are always ready to party, to sing, dance, eat and celebrate anything and everything. In Bogotá we have the perfect weather all year round and even when it's raining I find the city beautiful and vibrant. There's what I call Latin flavor all around. The city isn't really organized, it exists in its own chaos and that's what makes it alive. You get people selling you everything from gum to sunglasses to bags and clothes on a stoplight. You can buy hand made jewelry while walking on the street or a popsicle on a hot day. Also you get elegant malls, a vast variety of restaurants of all kinds, theater, concerts, libraries, clubs and bars of all kinds. If you take a 3 hour drive down the mountain (Bogotá is in a mountain 2600 meters above sea level) you are immediately in a 29 degree weather were you can get a tan. Or go through another rout to go to the snow mountains, just 4 hours away. And of course you get all the weathers in between. Colombia is beautiful. The landscapes are amazing and Bogotá is located beside the tops of a mountain chain so you can always see a lot of green, no matter where you are. There are coffee shops all over the city, stores of all kinds, beautiful colonial architecture, parks, museums, and lively night life and a welcoming atmosphere.
I love it here, I wouldn't trade it for the world but the bad image to world has of my country is sad and annoying in many ways. Still, this place, with all its downfalls is a paradise. A hidden one I get to live in and love.
