How strange for the magpie
Going about his business
To see people looking anxious
As he hops to and fro
Saluting him as they pass
To ward off misfortune

How strange for the raven
Who sits in solemn quietude
Seeking rest after a flight
Or long hours of play
To be met with hearts full of dread
And eyes full of tears

How strange for your mere existence
To be seen as a herald of doom

I will likely come back to this one because green is my favourite colour and I love trees but have a silly placeholder haiku for now:

frogs, I have heard, find
the state of viridity
is not so simple

a bright yellow sun
the pale white moon
stars scattered
to the winds
one man's weed
is another man's wish

Looking at the night sky
It's the vast, empty space between each star,
Between each bright and shining point,
That we fill with meaning;
Connecting the dots to make pictures,
To tell stories

When it feels like you're doing nothing,
Remember it's only with the negative space
That the whole picture can be seen,
As the bright spots shine brighter still,
Leaving behind an outline.
A meaning.

A story.

we talk of time in terms of currency
a signifier of value, a commodity
time can be borrowed or spent
it can be invested or wasted
a moment can be stolen
counting minutes like pennies
they all add up
we feel the debt
the exponential interest rate
of a precious and finite resource
and speak of death as a reckoning
no wonder that most precious of all
should be called free time
