Characters/pairing: Relena and Dorothy
Summary: "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
---
"You look thoughtful," Relena said, placing her cup of coffee soundlessly on the table.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Dorothy hadn't turned to look back at Relena; her eyes had been focused firmly on the window for the last fifteen minutes.
"The rain?"
"No. That's a bit clichéd, isn't it?" Dorothy put her hand on the window as a thunder sounded, almost deafeningly loud. "The lightning."
Relena glanced outside just in time to see the bright glow of the lightning in the middle of the storm. "It's too much like the flash of the cameras for my taste."
"It's nothing like it." Dorothy finally looked at Relena. "The cameras and their lights are there to complement you, to tell you the world cares about you. A beam of lightning is the biggest and most eloquent way the world has to say it isn't true. You don't matter."
"And this is why you like it?" Relena asked carefully.
"No." Dorothy brushed a lock of hair from her face. "It's the raw power which attracts me. It's beautiful and dangerous."
Relena took a sip from her coffee. "You have a fetish with it, danger."
"Maybe." Dorothy smiled. "I know what excites me."
Relena laughed and shook her head. "I really don't want to know."
"You don't fool me, Relena. You are excited by danger too."
Placing the cup back on the table Relena turned her eyes back to the window. "Maybe." The sky was illuminated for a second by another lightning bolt. "I guess it is pretty in a way."
Dorothy's fingers brushed against Relena's. "In more than one way."
"Yes," Relena looked at Dorothy again and smiled. "I think you are right."
