1) I know you speak Spanish and English. Do you speak any other languages and what have you found the most difficult thing about learning English?

Lets see, I know some Hebrew. I know how to read and write and enough vocabulary and grammar to impress family and friends.
"A shem sheli Misanagi, ani yalda tova mi Colombi." See?

I know a little frech, not much so don’t try to talk to me because I probably wouldn’t understand.

I’m studding Japanese and I love it. It’s kind of difficult but quite fun. I’m learning Latin too but I don’t like it as much. I had a really bad teacher...

I really don’t know exactly how I learned English. I had some classes at school but they weren’t good. I got the American HBO when I was 14 and I kind of picked it there. Writing is a bit more difficult. Everytime I write something I learn something new but it is a difficult process sometimes. The good thing is that I like to do it.

2) Who is your favourite anime character and why?

Ladies and gentleman, we have a tie!

Kenshin Himura and Quatre Winner. If you think about it you’ll notice that they are very alike, at least on their way of thinking.

They are both very strong and they are also kind and caring people. They are very complex because of that. Quatre and Kenshin fight for a better world and to accomplish that they do things that hurts them deeply.

They hate killing and it’s something that destroys them but they still do it when they have too. Kenshin stopped and found another way to protect people but he would condemn himself if he didn’t have a choice, Quatre would do the same. I find that very admirable, they care enough to sacrifice something more dearly to them than their own lives, they hurt their souls.

Kenshin was 14 when he became a hitokiri and Quatre was 13 when he fought his first battle. They had been though a lot and they keep going. Kenshin holds a sword, Quatre holds a gun but they can both take a moment to admire those things in life that we take for granted.

They are walking contradictions and I find that very interesting.

3) What do you look for when you rec a fic ie what are strong points and what puts you off fics?

I really have a problem with unfinished fics. The ending is very important to a story, sometimes the good ending is what makes the difference and besides, a good incomplete fic is one of the most frustrating things you can ever encounter.

I’m not that picky about grammar and spelling (I really don’t feel I have the right) as long as it’s readable it’s fine by me but I wouldn’t rec something that is filled with mistakes even I can detect.

I love Quatre-centric fics, there are many good Kenshin fics out there but Quatre is harder to find. I try to rec them since I know there are a lot Quatre fans out there that are hunting for them. Of course a fic with the line "Quatre cried because he was smaller and less capable that the other pilots" or anything like that would have me running far away and ranting loudly the whole way.

Whumping! I love whumping!

I like things that have a twist, something that makes it stand out and be special.

I like fics that don’t try to explain everything to you. I love it when they leave some gaps you have to fill, I like it when the mystery is never solved. It gives you something to think about and a fic that can do that should be recommended.

The most important thing is to get some feeling out of it. It can’t really be described, some fics have it and some don’t. When I read something like that I usually can’t just sit and read, I have to move, play with my hands and stop and think about it. It’s the same thing that happens with books, it appeals to something inside me even if I don’t know what it is.

4) How did you get hooked on anime?

*Looks at the Kenshin figure on the bookshelf and smiles*

One day, about two and a half years ago, I was bored and changing channels, hoping to find something to see.

I stopped at Cartoon Network after I saw this cartoon (they were cartoons back then) that was standing at the beach with his hands tied in front of him and looking ahead. Of course I had to stop and see what was that all about.

A few moments later I saw the scene that changed my life. Kenshin sheathed the sword he had been given, put it aside and said this to the woman that wanted them to fight to the death: "You were the one who saved Kaoru. To pay my debt to you, I offer you mi life."

I didn’t know who Kaoru was but all I could think of was "What kind of cartoon says that?"

So anyway, Kenshin closed his eyes and waited patiently for the final blow. He looked so calm, he was ready to die, that was the moment I fell in love with him. That episode is still one of my favorites.

It all went downhill from there. I saw all Rurouni Kenshin and discovered that not all the animation was made for kids. I started seeing more anime and before I knew it I was hunting the only anime store in the city, writing fanfiction and even learning Japanese. This is a dangerous addiction.

5) What motivates you to write and is it still the same thing which motivated you in the first place?

For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a writer. I’m an only child and kind of solitary by choice, that and reading books since I could decipher what those weird symbols were, gave me an overactive imagination. I always liked the idea of creating a new world where I could control everything, it was a place I called my own.

I got into fanfiction after many internal debates and with the hope to break my writer’s block. The first fandom I read was RK. I had seen the series in English first (because the Spanish voices are awful) and then in Japanese with English subtitles. I watched GW in English too. When I finally decided to write, English felt more natural.

Now I write because I need to. I always have. Everyone needs to escape reality somehow and writing is my way. Is something that I love to do and makes me happy. One of the few constant things of my live.

I really enjoyed reading your answers. Got a kick out of the whumping...someone who feels the same way I do *grin*

And our opinions re Quatre are very similar too. It's the whole walking contridiction thing I love; that and the empathy.

Thanks for sharing.

And your commentary is now posted :) At least part one anyway.
