Friending meme?

Has anyone else noticed the "Firending meme" trend that has been going for a while on LJ? I've seen it in a couple of fandoms, people answer a series of questions about their preferences within the fandom and then they go around, browsing the comments and make new friends. I participated in a PoT one a little while ago (I was curious) and ended up with a couple of new people on my f-list who are really cool.

Does anyone know if there has been a GW one? I think it might have but maybe I'm just imagining it? I'm trying to think back 4 years ago and how I started to build my f-list. I knew a couple of people from the mailing lists and added them and then through them I found more. If I hadn't known people before I joined LJ I would have definitely needed a friending meme.

So what's my point? I'm not sure I have one. I might be wondering if people would be interested in a GW friending meme, or do we already know everyone? *ponders* I'm not sure it'll work with a fandom that it's a bit asleep but maybe it would help waking it up. Or maybe I'm just rambling... Thoughts? Buller?

P.S. I played tennis for the first time today and I arrived at a very interesting conclusion: I suck.

I totally don't remember how I started on LJ either. Oo;; Which is odd, but whatever? If GW fandom is anything like PoT fandom, they'll have another friending meme eventually.

I'm not sure there's been a GW friending meme. The fandom is quite different from PoT. A bit more clicky, I think. Or a least was since now is half asleep.

and you can't possibly suck worse. The fun thing is that I can't help myself thinking of all the terms Japanese style. It's not "out" it's "out-o" it's not a "cord ball" but "cord-u boll-u"... quite fun ^-^

tennis is so hard, isn't it? pros/my sister makes it look so easy but then you go after a shot and...miss. that's my tennis story :p

I has work for other fandoms. it might help to breach the gap between "old timers" and the "newbies"? I would be willing to host it if people are interested...

And yeah, you watch it and it looks so easy but it isn't, or at least I don't have the coordination for it... *hangs head*

I remember that I started by friending people that were on the GW mailing lists too...and then friended people off of comms and the such...it just grew from there. I hardly ever friend anyone anymore (I just usually friend back people who friend me), so it would be interesting to have a GW friending meme I think.

I have to agree with your above statement that the GW fandom is a bit clique-ish. We're very close-knit and it's so hard to get in with everyone. Sometimes I still feel like I'm not quite part of the crowd...and it's been 4 years or so now!!

I defintely feel like I'm not part of the crowd and I've been in GW fandom for 7 years give or take. It's very cliquey, though I've seen other fandoms which are way worse.

I think a friending meme is a good idea, Mis. Go for it.

Yeah, the fandom has its things but I do love it and I wonder if there are other people out there to meet. Like you, it's been ages since I've friended someone first and it could bee a good opportunity. If people are interested I'm willing to host it.

But sadly, the fandom is rather dead. It's been dead or dying for a number of years now, only a few of us die-hard fans still around, the rest just remember it fondly while obsessing about something else.

But you never know, it might work!

I wouldn't exactly call it dead. Not really. There's still some activity, even of it's not near the same kind that it was years ago but people still write, read, draw, plan contests and generally are involved with the fandom. I am thinking a meme could be a fun way to get more people together...

The fandom, itself, isn't dead, though there are a couple of never ending fanfics that I wish would die. *laughs*

That would be so awesome! I've been into the fandom for almost 7 years now, but mostly not writing. It would be awesome to meet some new folks!

And tennis is fun. I'm not very good, but I can hold my own. Good times....

I... friended random people that I found through communities who had been posting stuff that I liked. And at that point I hadn't realised yet that it might be polite to actually say something before friending, so I just went on wild friending rampages *facepalms*

I like friending memes in general, though I probably wouldn't partake in a GW one because, well. I'm not very active in the fandom anymore. And by not very, I mean, not at all.

I don't think it's bad friending people without telling them. I'm puzzled, though, by people whit friend me and never comment or post so I really never get to know them. It's ok if you don't want to participate, makes sense if you are really not in the fandom, though, perhaps we can lure you back in... *grins*
