It wasn't supposed to be this way. He was supposed to fight and die and that should have been the end of it. But he had lived. He had challenged every enemy and in the end he was left with his life and he didn't know what to do with it.

And then the worst had happened. He had started to notice things he had been so carefully trained to ignore and dismiss. He liked the feeling of a hand brushing his, the friendly words shared with his comrades and the warm looks.

But something else had stirred, something far less pleasant. He had found himself longing for that elusive word he couldn't quite define. He didn't know exactly how love worked so he settled for waiting. And he waited, and waited and waited.

Sometimes he hoped he had fulfilled his mission and died. He was tired of waiting.

And then one of them had spoken to him and showed him with kind words how he was already loved in many ways and Heero understood, love wasn't really that hard to come by after all.
