I got myself a MacBook.

Yep, it's pretty, and shinny and I still don't know how to use it ^^;;

So that's one of the reasons I've been even more absent than usual. I'm still trying to learn how to handle this and trasfer my files and stuff.

Sadly, until I get myself a mac compatible photoshop there won't be icons. So if your birthday has come and gone and there's no icon, that's why. Please don't think that I don't care.

I'm still trying to find a text editor or something... I don't think I've been this confused with a computer since I got my first one.

If any of you has a mac and has some pointers, handy tips or anything at all to share it would be very much appreciated.

*hugs and loves everyone*

::waves hand:: Been using Mac for ages so if you're stuck, I might be able to help. What operating system are you running? (I think a new one was coming out soon.)

The only problem with the new Macs is that they won't run a lot of the old Mac software, which I probably could have sent you legally (being part of a design outfit with a lot of old software lying around). I'll poke around through my stuff at home anyway.

Those of fewer scruples harness the power of bittorrent. It depends where your priorities lie.

If you have any technical questions though, I can probably help.

I have Mac OS X. I'm still learning how to use it. It took me 15 mins last night to learn how to delete something, but I think I got a handle on that now.

I hadn't even thought of using bittorrent to get software. And I don't have that many scruples...

I don't have any specifics yet, it's just tricky getting used to the new stuff. I'm still trying to find a way to transfer my files and I'll have to check to find a text editor, but that's it so far. The rest is me trying to get used to stuff.

Thanks for the help! *glomps* I might bother you more in th future.

I'm not sure what version it's on but it's now downloading some upgrades or something...

I've never ever downloaded software from the net. Only episodes and anime and stuff. I want photoshop and I was thinking of buying a pirated disk here if I can get it or something.

And I'm kind of used to word, though I gave openoffice a look too but their are not very specific as to what they offer. Actually one of my main needs is that it recognizes different languages because I write as much in Spanish as I do in English.

Thank you so much for all your help! I'm sure iIll find things as I go along and I'll bother you then. *hugs*

what files are you attempting to transfer? text files? music files? Windows files are VERY hairy about being transferred to a mac. They don't like it very much. The best thing you can do is zip everything up, back everything up, and then attempt to load the zipped files onto the mac.

a note - if they're .exe's they will not load onto a mac at all. one of the bonuses of owning a mac is that they do not use executable files. that's what keeps them almost completely virus free. you have to know what kind of files your transferring....and what application they open in. then you need to make sure there's an equivalent application for the mac. (like, .doc files without word specific formatting will open in Text Edit now, but not ones with specific formatting).

So the only problem you might have is if you use an application a whole lot that has no equivalent on a mac. Then there might be some trouble!

But the most important thing is to back everything up before you begin and to make use of those help menus. If you still can't figure it out then call AppleCare (you have 90 days of phone support and one year hardware warranty from the start, but that's the ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. So if you bought this resale or from an Apple reseller, then you might have a problem.

Gosh, I hope I got all that right!!!!

Well it's really really cool, it's just that when you are so used to windows, getting used to a new way to do almost everything is quite complicated. *scratches head*

And I so so love your icon So cute!

ask away!!!

also...

Did you buy AppleCare? If not, do so. The Apple technical support is tops (wins every year over Dell and HP and everyone else).

Also! Every application on a mac has a comprehensive help menu that will explain every question you have, as well as lead you to Knowledge Base articles to help you out.

Try to figure things out for yourself before calling technical support.

The text editor that comes default with a mac is Text Edit. It's in the applications folder.

(my husband works level two technical support for the fruity computer company)

I love it when people buy macs.

So far I think I'm doing good. I'm getting the handle of this and I managed to transfer my files. I think I'm too hooked on word to leave it. I'm going to see about getting one for my mac. Thanks for the help! *hugs*

Oh and pretty icon!!

i'm so glad it's working out for you :-)

are you a student? if you are, you can get macintosh compatible software at a huge discount through apple (i believe).

I have a question, what torrent client do you use/recommend?

i sadly don't use torrent very often, but when i do i just use plain old BitTorrent. it's never failed me. i don't know if it's the best or what.

but!

there's a good website for finding all kinds of mac software. here's a link to what torrent clients they have. :-)

Macs are lovely. I have been so happy ever since I got my iBook last April. So long as your text files were Microsoft Word, you can get Word everything will transfer just fine.

Mac's are really nice. Everyone I know who has one just loves it. The good news is they are much better for graphics once you get to that point. I know a bit about them but most of it is connectivity which you're already mastered.

*hugs* Good luck.

Ohhh a Macbook? *________________*~~~♥
Damn, but I envy you so very much right now!

And...wait, is there really a Mac version for Photoshop? I thought there was only one version that you could install on different computers even if we were talking Macs and PCs. Guess I was wrong ^.^;;;

I don't have any tips that I can give you cause I work on a pc, but I'm wishing you good luck with your new computer-baby *hugs*
