Most nights, Quatre fell asleep in the middle of the bed, with Wufei and Trowa on either side of him. It was comfortable to snuggle between them, feeling their warmth and love all around him; it was comfortable and safe. The few times he had woken up from a nightmare, thinking that his empathy was again out of control, that he was hurting the ones he loved, he only had to feel his lovers beside him to chase his fears away.
The one night he had woken them up after a nightmare, they had covered him with kisses and touches, showed him that they loved him and that they were there for him, always.
Things didn't always run smoothly. Living with two other people had its challenges. Trowa liked spicy food while Wufei didn't believe in hiding natural flavors under too much condiment. Quatre liked heavy blankets because he was always cold while Trowa complained about melting under them. Wufei liked to burn incense but the smoke gave Quatre a headache.
Quatre had known, when he had decided to enter a relationship with two people, that it would be a lot of work. He wasn't an expert on relationships; the short one he'd had with Trowa before was proof enough of how clueless he could be, but something inside him told him that as difficult as this seemed, it would work.
Two years probably weren't enough time to declare that a relationship was a success, but Quatre believed that those things weren't measured in time. It was the little things, the thoughts and actions that bound them together and that ensured that it would remain that way.
L2 had been a good place to settle. By the time Wufei and Trowa joined him, Quatre had already bought a house and had jobs waiting for them. He was determined to help L2's development and, so far, his contributions had helped the economy greatly. He wasn't foolish, he knew that things would take time to stabilize, but he was patient.
Heero and Duo had helped too. They were always willing to lend a hand when something was needed, and likewise, Quatre, Trowa and Wufei often helped pilot the scrap yard suits when there were shipments coming in. They were a family and they had vowed, not long after they all settled on L2, that they wouldn't part ways again.
Having all of them close had been the main reason Quatre had managed to control his empathy. They were his anchor and any time he felt he was losing control, they were there to guide him back. And no matter what happened during the day, at night he could always trust that Wufei and Trowa would be waiting for him in bed, so he could snuggle into their warmth.
