Since [livejournal.com profile] razberrycreme is greedy and wasn't happy with one entry and poked and prodded until I agreed to write another... I wrote her this silly little thing.

Permanent Marker

Rating: R
Pairings: 1x2, implied 3x4
Warnings: Language, silliness, pilot math. Duo's POV
Summary: 01 x 02 = ?

Notes: Written for the 1x2 Cubicle Love contest

Thanks a lot to Anne for the beta

_______

If you want to know our story, or at least the story of how we got together, then you just need to walk into Preventers HQ, go to the men's room on the seventh floor, third stall, and take a look at the door. Granted, you might not actually get it, but I guarantee it's all there.

But I'm a nice guy, so I'm willing to tell you how things happened, from the start.

Well, not the beginning beginning, because the story starts with a war, a shot on the leg and a suicide attempt. That isn't such a nice story so I'm going to skip ahead, and tell you what happened after the dust settled.

There were five teenagers with a shitload of skills, none which applied in a nice peace loving society, so, in the end, we all took Lady Une's offer and went to work for Preventers. We spent a couple of months, having a mission here, a mission there, pretty much same old same old, and then one day, while the five of us were having drinks, Trowa raised his beer bottle and said, "To love."

And Quatre gave him this look before raising his bottle too, and that's how they told us they were together. Wufei was a little slow on the up take. He didn't get it until Trowa kissed Quatre full on the lips.

You might think that the fact that Quatre and Trowa got together doesn't directly affect my story, but you would be wrong. See, it was the next morning, right after I found out two of my best friends were madly in love and apparently shagging like bunnies, that I found the graffiti in the bathroom.

Scribbled in a blue permanent marker beside the "Sometimes we sit and think and sometimes we just sit" message, there was this line:

03 x 04 = 012

At first, I just thought there had to be some pretty bored or constipated agent if he was writing silly arithmetic operations in the bathroom stall instead of clever jokes, like the rest of us did. I don't know what prompted me to use my black permanent marker to write a simple line below the equation.

0 + 1 + 2 = 3

Hell if I know what that meant.

I forgot about the messages and the stall for the rest of the day, but the next morning, when I walked into the bathroom, I found the 3 in my line crossed out in blue marker, and below, this equation:

012 = 01 + 02
01 x 02 = ?

I didn't want to think there was a hint there, but come on! After being referred by a number during the war, and us actually using those numbers now and then, you can't blame for thinking that this, whatever it was, had something to do with Heero and me.

So, more in the hope of testing what was happening, I scribbled over the question mark and wrote beside it,

02
---
01

The next morning I rushed into the bathroom but there was nothing written in blue marker. I spent the day trying to notice everyone who went into the bathroom, but about every agent in the damn building did, and following them inside to see which stall they used would have looked very suspicious.

I checked the stall at lunch break but still nothing. It wasn't until I went in, just before I left for the day, that I found an answer. It wasn't another equation but a simple check mark beside my last line. I stared at it for a few minutes before yanking the door open and walking straight into a smirking Heero Yuy.

"Well?" he asked, pointing to the door with a blue marker.

Grinning, I put my arms around him and pulled him inside. He closed the door behind him, and I pressed his back to it and kissed him. What happened next you won't find it written on the stall, at least not in permanent marker. But let me just say that every now and then Heero and I go back to the bathroom to remember where it all began.

That was wonderful! Simple and sweet and very clever. You're going to let me archive this, right? It's just so cute, and I know I'll want to read it more than once. I love it!

:D Oooh, I think I read this one at Sharon's MoR some time ago. This is really brilliant! And adorable with the little equation. Heero is so forthcoming here; it's a nice change.
