Spilt
Rating: G
Characters: Heero
Summary: No use crying over spilt milk.
---
Heero read the menu and asked for the first thing on the list. Lasagna sounded good enough. He put the menu down on the table and asked for his order.
A crash sounded and Heero reached for his gun, stopping himself from drawing it just barely. The little girl on the table in front of him had spilled her drink, the glass had shattered on the floor creating a big puddle by the girl's feet.
She started to cry.
Heero took a sip of his own water bottle. The girl wasn't loud, not like those kids who scream every time they don't get what they want. She was just sad.
"Look what you've done, Beatriz!" The mother had stood up and was trying unsuccessfully to clean her now purple stained skirt. "Wait here," she ordered and with a huff headed for the lady's room.
The girl kept on crying.
The restaurant employees were busy cleaning the mess by the girl's feet, quietly moping the floor and drying the table. Heero stopped one of them. "Get the girl a new drink," he said.
The waiter looked nervous. "The restaurant has a policy about giving free drinks…"
"I'll pay." Heero gave the waiter a look and the man hurried into the kitchen.
Moments later the man reappeared with a drink for the girl. She kept crying, quieter now, as if she was trying very hard to stop.
Heero took another sip of his water and then set it down on the edge of the table. The bottle fell on the floor.
The girl looked back and saw the water spilling down on the floor. Heero looked at her and picked it up. "Accidents happen," he said simply and put the bottle back on the table.
When the mother came back from the bathroom the girl had stopped crying.
