chatona. Merry Christmas!

They never knew when they had crossed the line, they never even knew there was a line there until they looked back and noticed that yeah, that line had been crossed long ago. Maybe that first time they'd hugged a moment too long after creating a waterfall on the great hall, or the night Sirius ran away and they'd shared a bed, James holding him until daylight, both silently awake. Or maybe it had been on the train, first year, the moment they shared their first mischievous look. Whenever it happened, it didn't really matter, what did was James and Sirius and that was all. James and Sirius, Padfoot and Prongs, more accurately.
Attached at the hip, the teachers said. Poofers, a Slitherin had snarled once. Brothers, Mrs. Potter called them. Best friends, said the girls with a dreamy sigh. None and all were correct.
Remus had asked once and only once if they were together. Yes, they had said in one breath, but not in the way you think, Moony. Remus wasn't sure he understood but he never asked again, figuring there were things he wasn't meant to comprehend.
McGonagall never asked nor did she want to know. Still, behind the stern face and the disapproval of their antics she couldn't help but feel pride when they stood in front of her, heads held high and a stubborn look on their faces. They both refused to allow the other to take the fall.
Filch hated them both. Troublemakers. Delinquents. One of his pastimes was to picture the many tortures he would subject the pair to if he were allowed. He sometimes had nightmares of the combined sound of their laughter.
Snape very consciously refrained from pondering their sexuality. He rather not ponder them at all but thoughts of vengeance constantly swirled around his head.
Dumbeldore smiled at them knowingly. He saw courage, loyalty, brilliance and love. Love was always his favorite emotion, love and its many complicated shades.
Sirius saw James and James saw Sirius… nothing more. There wasn't more to ponder or label. There was just them, all that mattered, simple enough. Padfoot and Prongs, no line in between.
