MoR Anniversary!

As you might know, today is Moments of Rapture's fifth anniversary! *throws confetti*

Sharon, congratulations on five years of spreading the Heero and Duo love. Thank you so much for all your work supporting the fandom and for always being so kind and encouraging *loves*

And to celebrate, I wrote you a little ficlet ^_^

Fun

Summary: Heero and Duo get a chance to try something they never did before

Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] sharona1x2 for the fifth anniversary of Moments of Rapture

Thanks a lot to Anne for the bunny and the beta!

____

"It's just a park," Duo said as he approached the sandbox. "Bad intel. Not that I mind…" He licked his ice cream cone, enjoying the cool sweetness on the hot summer day. "Think we can hang here for a while?"

Heero shrugged and pointed to a bench by the swings. His cone was chocolate, and somehow, Heero managed to eat it without getting any ice cream on his face or fingers. One day Duo would have to ask him what was his secret.

The bench was under a tree, which provided a cool shade. They sat in silence for a while, each eating their ice creams while watching the children play. It wasn't such a big park. There was a large sandbox, three swings, a slide, monkey bars and a carrousel. The rest was just grass and open space for the children to play.

Finishing his cone, Duo wiped his fingers and mouth as best as he could and threw the napkin in the trashcan near the bench. It went in, and seconds later, another napkin fell inside. Heero smirked and put his hands in his jacket pockets.

The sun was hiding behind the mountains, and with each inch that disappeared in the horizon, another mother took their kid home. The temperature dropped slightly and Duo closed his jacket and hugged himself.

"Cold?" Heero didn't wait for a reply and simply put his arm around Duo's shoulders and pulled him close.

Duo smiled and let his head rest on Heero's shoulder. They would have to go soon and write a report on how it had been just a false tip, no weapon dealer's hot spot here. But for now, Duo wanted to enjoy a simple afternoon, for a while at least.

"Did you ever do that?" Heero asked. He was looking at the deserted playground, frowning slightly.

"No playgrounds on my colony, at least not in the part I lived." Duo shrugged. "But there was this banister in Maxwell Church we liked to slide down on."

"It isn't the same." Heero's lips curved downwards slightly. "Those," he pointed to the monkey bars, "I used for training but they were never fun. The kids here seemed to be having fun."

Duo's heart stopped and he swallowed the knot in his throat. He managed a shaky smile and stood up, offering his hand to Heero. "Let's have fun then."

It took a couple of seconds but Heero curled his fingers around Duo's hand and let himself be led into the playground.

"I want to try the slide first," Duo said, and run towards the little ladder, pulling Heero along with him. He only let go of Heero's hand to climb up and then waved down at Heero. "Here I go!" He grinned and pushed himself down.

When he reached the ground, he didn't stand up immediately. Instead, he remained seated on the lower part of the slide, smiling.

"Exciting?" Heero was sitting at the top of the slide, ready to play, and looking down at Duo.

"Fun," Duo said. "Very much so."

Seconds later a weight landed on Duo's back, and Heero's arms were around his chest. Heero's laugh was so soft that if the playground hadn't been deserted, Duo wouldn't have been able to hear it.

Turning his head back, Duo pressed his lips on the side of Heero's, kissing the smile he could now see. He grabbed Heero's hand again and stood up. "Let's try the swings now. I saw they can go very high."

Maybe they had lost their chance to try fun then, but now they had time, and Duo was making sure they enjoyed every second of it.

- The End -

That was very sweet. At the end I was smiling, although it did have it's bittersweet moments it was lovely. The relatiosnhip between Duo and Heero I thought was well defined.

Thank you! it's great when I make people smile ^_^ It had sad parts but in the end things get better. Thanks a lot for the comment ^-^

That makes me so happy! To see them having such a good time together makes up for a lot of the sad things they went through as children. I can really see them doing something like that! *squeeeee*

Thank you so much, Mis! I don't know if I've said it often enough, but I adore when you write these two guys together. You write them so well. It feels a little weird saying you're one of my favorite Heero/Duo writers when most people probably think of you more for your Quatre/Trowa stories. I guess I'm doubly lucky that you write both pairings I love. ^_____^

Today is the best day, ever! ♥

I should also ask, may I archive this at Rapture?

[identity profile] misanagi.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
They deserve to have some fun. Even if they only get to do some things late, the important part is that they get to do it.

*blushes* Thank you so much! It makes me so happy that you like how I write the guys ^___^

I'm really happy you had a good day! And again, congratulations!

Oh, and of course you can archive this! I wrote it for you and MoR, so it's yours ^-^ (I'm still amazed that you want to archive some of my things ^^;;)

*hugs them* its important to be a kid once in a while, more so if you didn't get the chance the first time around.

[identity profile] misanagi.livejournal.com 2006-09-10 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. They deserve the chance to be kids, even if it's only now. Thanks for the comment ^_^

Playgrounds are one of my favorite settings for fic, and I love what you did here, the slight bittersweetness - but the sweetness is there, yes. I adore this paragraph:

Seconds later a weight landed on Duo's back, and Heero's arms were around his chest. Heero's laugh was so soft that if the playground hadn't been deserted, Duo wouldn't have been able to hear it.

That is almost an entire little story unto itself.

Wonderful as always, Mis!

Thank you! I'm so glad that you liked it. The bunny was Anne's. She gave me the idea, I liked it and went with it ^_^

I needed to include that paragraph. I love the image of them like that in the slide. I'm so happy you liked it too.

*hugs* Thanks so much for reading ^_^

how incredibly sweet and touching. :) i really liked this, and love how heero and duo are together in it. i like that they're up for having a little childhood fun, and sharing that fun together.

*hugs* thanks so much for sharing your talent with us, mis!

Oh thank you, Merith! Anne gave me the bunny and then it wrote itself. They deserve a little childhood fun even if it is a little late. *hugs* Thanks so much for making sure we all remember MoR anniversary!

This is also nice. I like the little transition between fluff to sad and back to fluff again. The ending was so adorable, imagining them running around in the playground, telling each other out loud "I want to do this and this". If there were kids around staring at them funny, they probably wouldn't notice the looks. XDD Nice job!

Thank you!I had this image of them in a playground and it seemed fitting. I'm sure they wouldn't notice if anyone looked at them, they would be having too much fun to care.
