It had been difficult to convince him that he was deserving of love. She couldn't even try to comprehend guilt like the one he carried but she could stand by him and say it over and over again, how many times it was needed, "I love you."

It was funny however, that even though her hands weren't the ones stained with blood, she was the one who felt undeserving. She was normal, even boring, growing up with family and then learning to stand on her own feet. And here he was, staying with her, bleeding for her, leaving for her and in the end loving her.

So every time she talks to Kenshin and convinces him that he deserves her, that the good deeds in his past allow him to enjoy love, Kaoru is also telling herself that no matter how mundane her life had been she must have done something good too. After all she was here with him.
