Sentence # 44

44. Heaven

Duo would never admit, not even to himself, that the reason why he often dragged Quatre away from work to have some fun was because, after what they had done, he didn't believe that they would go to heaven; life was probably all the happiness they would get, and Duo wouldn't let his best friend throw that away.

I think what makes this one especially moving is that clause at the beginning - "not even to himself" - followed by the rest of it, the way that Duo knows and doesn't at the same time. Or maybe it's that he knows and doesn't want to know. I love the determination, too, the irrepressible urge to live. Not just to be alive, but to allow for joy wherever you can get it, in however small measure or form; it's all worth it.

Thank you.

I'm so glad that you liked this. As you say, Duo doesn't want to know, but yet he does, and it affects the way he lives and the way he wants the others to lead their lives too.

*hugs you* thanks so much for the comment. *hugs more*
